Day 14/ 31 days of #toddlerartinvitations

Invitation to create transient art with a platter of colourful loose parts. When I set it up for my 23mo, the invitation was exactly like in the first picture. However the toddler specifically requested playdough when she saw the loose parts so you’ll see the addition of playdough in subsequent photos. I’m actually really loving how she’s gaining the confidence to organize and request materials for her play, like how she also did in yesterday’s invitation.

Now before you look at the pictures and begin to think that my daughter is crazy creative with the creations she’s come up with 😝, I did the one in this particular pic 🙈😆, though she did ‘help’ by adding bottle caps at the side and putting colour rocks in them.

The creations in the rest of the photos were all her.

To be honest, she was more interested in adding loose parts to her playdough and threading those bamboo pieces onto the wooden pick-up sticks instead of creating a beautiful piece of transient art. She spent more time trying to figure out how many bamboo pieces she needed to cover the entire pick-up stick than anything else (see video here). It was nothing like how I imagined she’d engage with this tray of materials and I’m totally ok with that.

I love that she’s experimenting with the different items on the tray, exercising her creativity, practicing fine-motor skills, solving problems through trial and error as well as developing self-confidence in her abilities.
