Day 4/31 days of #toddlerartinvitations

Invitation to create with glittery PLAYDOUGH and different loose parts which we did yesterday morning.

My 23mo doesn’t have the fine motor skills yet to actually roll or form things by herself using the playdough. But I discovered that if I present the playdough to her in different ways, it prompts her to actually create different things/scenes using the loose parts provided.

For instance, when I presented it to her like a burger patty as in this first photo, she made a beach/seaside scene using those shells for one and made a cake with candles using those small popsicle sticks for another. As she was creating, she mentioned how she was making a cake and adding candles for “Fay Fay’s birthday” and amazingly, we had just attended her friend Fay fay’s party over the weekend.

Then when I made little balls for her, it inspired her to push those small popsicle stocks into the balls to make lollipops. Not that she has a lot of those haha, but for her lollipops go hand in hand with medication and she had quite a fair amount with her recent illness and having to take antibotics.

Isn’t it amazing how much of their real life experiences is brought into their play? Children often use play to consolidate and to make sense of the life experiences and events that they go through in order to get a better understanding of the world in which they live.
