There’s many great things about the TALE/ OEPA community but this is my favourite BY FAR

Mamas of twins and active boys getting inspired by @raisingwarriors.my

Mamas of just 1 child getting inspired by @strangeinourhearts

Mamas navigating small spaces and staying with in-laws getting inspired by @hotairballoonkids’ story

I could go on and on and tell you stories of how every single TALEr has the ability to inspire another to play more, to develop creativity, to embrace mess and to recognise authentic learning opportunities

Because the thing is every single one of us brings to the community a lived experience and perspective that I, Jules cannot do on my own.

We are now 600+ strong and we are #bettertogether

So so grateful for each and every one of you

Thank you for being the absolute best part of TALE/ OEPA!

As a former teacher, teaching and sharing knowledge is my happy place

And getting to hang out with other parents all over the world at the same time and chatting about all things play and learning?!!

Seriously pinch me! Never in a million years would I have thought that I could do this even after leaving the classroom 8 years ago

TALE member Ling Hsing didn’t have her own place

TALE member Ling Hsing didn’t have her own place and lived with in-laws for 6 years

Her play space was in her bedroom as she could not store or leave anything in the common areas

In her own words “Sometimes I have to carry blocks down to the living room in the morning and pack everything back upstairs when it hit 6pm like Cinderella.“

But even when she was limited by space back then, it did not stop her from making writing tools/art supply/foldable table available to her 2 children.

She watched the TALE trainings and decided to make space for what she decided was important to her (swipe to see!)

Today they have a bigger space - a writing center, art supplies etc easily reachable and readily available that her kids help themselves to to create all sort of creations every single day.

Can you imagine the years of play and learning her kids would have missed out on if she had waited for space to be available before making tools and materials accessible to her kids?!

The long days of planning, going LIVE 11 times in 7 days and allllll the things that go into coaching week are so worth it.

For a week, I've taken 5000+ parents on a journey to discover how to start and encourage open ended play in your home and my heart is so full!

Those before/ after transformation of play spaces?! Amazing!

Those excited shares of children diving into play, eyes sparkling?! Warms my heart!

The joy you have when you understand your role and are helping your child to develop new skills and make connections?! I love them!

My favourite part about coaching week every single year, is reading the transformation stories shared by coaching week attendees.

Parents who didn’t think they are creative, realising that they ARE creative and CAN be creative

Parents who see beyond immediate outcomes to the long term benefits of open ended play

Parents who start to be excited about playing with their child!

Parents who begin to live intentionally to give the greatest gift of T. I. M. E. to their kids

When it comes to open-ended play, parents often th

When it comes to open-ended play, parents often think it’s all about open-ended toys ❌

While that’s definitely important, and you’ll often hear me talking about the awesomeness of blocks and magnetic tiles for instance, the truth is the toys you have or don’t have aren’t a make or break when it comes to encouraging open-ended play in your home.

There’s so much more that goes into your child’s ability to engage in open-ended play

• The play space itself
• Toys and materials (and notice how I didn’t mention open-ended toys)
• The way toys and materials are presented
• Your child’s developmental stage
• Your child’s play skills (yes play is a learned skill)
• The role of the adult

So please don’t let the lack of a particular toy or toys for that matter cause you to think that open ended play cannot happen in your home.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

One of my favouritest weeks of the year is back and I’m so excited!!

For the third time running, I’m hosting a FREE week-long “Open Ended Play Coaching Week” experience for the entire Stories of Play community :)

This is something extremely close to my heart because I truly believe that open-ended play is for everyone

Whether you’re completely new to open-ended play, familiar with it or you’re a seasoned pro, this is for you!

It is for you even if you have a limited budget for toys.

It is for you even if you have limited space in your home.

It is for you even if you have no idea how to play or you aren’t creative.

I’m so incredibly passionate about seeing open ended play in more homes that I do this week-long coaching for FREE once a year.

Why a whole week?

Because it takes time to teach, learn and implement things of value and I’ll be able to share way more in detail than what I am able to do on an Instagram post.

Why once a year?

I don’t know how they know.

But I often feel like our little ones always seem to sense when our mama hearts are fragile, emotionally drained and need some tender loving

And they show us in their own ways that they see our hurt

They see our defeat

They see our trying

They see our love

And they love us back

God knew my mama heart really needed that moment yesterday and I’m so grateful for it

And if this is you, and your mama heart is hurting

Because you’ve tried so hard

Because it feels impossible

Because it feels too much

May this video be balm to your soul

And may it show you and tell you that

Mama you are seen

And you are so so loved by the ones you love most
